There is no single price for a new kitchen, because guides measure different things: cabinets only, supply and fit, or everything including appliances and flooring. Here is what three published UK guides say, so you can see why the numbers differ.

The short answer

Published guides put a typical full kitchen anywhere from a few thousand pounds to well over £20,000, depending on size and specification. Always check whether a figure covers units only, units and fitting, or the whole room.

Totals by kitchen size

MyJobQuote's kitchen guide (updated 6 October 2026) gives installed totals by size: small (8 to 12 m²) £5,000 to £8,000, medium (12 to 20 m²) £8,000 to £15,000 and large (20 m² and over) £15,000 to £20,000 or more.

By finish level, it estimates budget kitchens at £5,000 to £7,000, mid-range at £8,000 to £14,000 and high-end from £20,000, including units, worktops, appliances, flooring or tiling and labour.

Fantastic Services' 2026 guide uses different assumptions. For the rest of the UK it gives supply and fit, including units and worktops, at £3,000 to £5,000 for a small kitchen, £5,000 to £8,000 for a medium one and £8,000 to £25,000 or more for a large or premium kitchen.

What Which? found for cabinets

Which? mystery-shopped a 12-unit kitchen in May 2025 and published the prices in its 2026 guide. The prices include VAT and sales discounts but exclude worktops, sink, taps and appliances.

  • IKEA: £1,500 to £2,500
  • Benchmarx: £2,500 to £4,500
  • Wren: £3,000 to £6,000
  • B&Q: £4,000 to £5,000
  • Magnet: £7,000 to £9,000

Which? notes that prices are subject to change and that discounts vary, so use them to compare brands, not as a quote.

Fitting labour

MyJobQuote puts labour alone at £1,700 to £3,000, roughly up to 30% of the total, with fitting typically taking 5 to 10 days. Fantastic Services gives the same £1,700 to £3,000 for the rest of the UK and £2,100 to £3,900 in London and the South East. Which? estimates labour at about 20 to 30% of the final spend if you do none of the installation yourself.

What is often extra

  • Gas Safe connection for a gas hob or cooker, and notifiable electrical work with its certificate.
  • Tiling, splashbacks, flooring and painting.
  • Plastering, or structural work if the layout changes.
  • Moving plumbing.
  • Appliances, if they are not included.

Which? reports that Magnet told it to expect around 30% of a kitchen budget to go on plumbing, flooring, electrics and other costs outside the kitchen itself. Which? also says keeping existing working appliances can save the best part of £1,000.

Region matters

Fantastic Services says London and the South East run roughly 20 to 30% higher than elsewhere in the UK.

How to use these numbers

  • Decide your layout and must-haves first, then get itemised quotes for the same specification.
  • Ask whether each quote includes units, worktops, appliances, fitting, electrics, plumbing and making good.
  • Hold back a contingency, as in our guide to setting a renovation budget.

Plan the kitchen before you price it

Upload a photo of your kitchen to GlowUpp to see AI-generated ideas, then use the picture to brief designers and fitters. These figures come from published UK cost guides, several of them from trade and quote-comparison sites, so treat them as planning benchmarks, not quotes. Prices vary by region, property, specification and time, and GlowUpp does not set or guarantee them. Always get itemised written quotes. Always ask a qualified professional before moving gas, electrics or plumbing, or changing anything structural, and check your lease or local rules if you rent or live in a conservation area.
